How to Tap: The Basics

Tapping Basics

  1. Determine what you want to work on.  Where in your body do you feel the emotional issue most strongly? (ex. is there a tightness in your chest, a heaviness in your stomach, etc.?)
  2. Rate the intensity of that feeling on a scale of 0 to 10. 10 being the maximum intensity and 0 is no intensity at all.
  3. The Setup: repeat the setup statement three times, while continuously tapping on the Karate Chop point. Be as specific as possible describing the problem:

“Even though I have this ___________ (name the problem), I deeply and completely accept myself.”
“Even though I have this ___________ (name the problem), I deeply and completely accept  myself.”
“Even though I have this ___________ (name the problem), I deeply and completely accept myself.”

  1. The tapping sequence: Tap about 5-7 times on each of the points while repeating a brief phrase that reminds you of the problem.
    1. Eyebrow-  “This _________ (name the problem, pain, anger, anxiety, sadness, hurt, etc)
    2. Outside of eye–  “This ________”
    3. Under eye–  “This ________”
    4. Under nose–  “This _________”
    5. Collar bone–  “This _________”
    6. Under the arm–  “This ________”
    7. Wrist (not pictured)–  “This ________”
    8. Top of the head–  “This _________”

  1. Rate the intensity again on a scale of 0-10. If it’s still high, repeat from step 1 until the intensity level is 0-1.
